Pelvic Pain - Downingtown, PAAccording to a recent survey, many men and women who suffer from pelvic pain have a hard time communicating their pain to their doctors.

Often, pelvic pain goes unreported and untreated for years. This may be due to embarrassment or a belief that this is normal. Luckily, individuals have become empowered in the past decade to question the reasons for their pain and seek the help they need to regain control of their lives.

Pelvic pain in women can be attributed to the following causes:

  • Endometriosis

  • Pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Injury, muscle spasms or adhesions following abdominal or pelvic surgery
  • Trauma
  • Ovarian cysts and fibroids
  • Uterine/cervical cancer
  • Constipation

Pelvic pain in men can be attributed to the following causes:

  • Prostatitis
  • Post vasectomy pain

  • Recurrent urinary infections
  • Interstitial cystitis (Chronic bladder inflammation)
  • Intestinal disorders
  • Hernia
  • Constipation

These painful conditions can significantly impact one's ability to work, raise a family and enjoy intimate relationships.

Pelvic pain is not exclusive to women.

It is also estimated that nearly 1 million men suffer with pelvic pain. Men may develop pain after injury, surgery, treatment for prostate or testicular cancer or colorectal procedures. This pain may limit their ability to work, participate in sports or recreational activities and limit their sexual performance.
